How to make a foot stool

I am slowly getting to some of those pieces that have been lying around waiting to be built.  I collect and store things I know can be made into something...someday.  I am trying to shrink those boxes of stored items in order to make room for more, of course!
I had some legs I made from a chair, an old cutting board and I put them together.  This is how it goes.

Painting a vintage clock

My husband and I have an appreciation for clocks.  When I ran across this one, I wasn't sure we could get it to work.  After tinkering with it, my husband fixed it.  Hooray!

How to make a skateboard swing

I am sure a lot of you have seen the skateboard swing on pinterest.  I thought it would be fun to make one for our swing set.  I don't have any trees large enough, so putting it on a swing set required a bit of thinking.
Items needed:
1. skateboard
2. rope
3. brackets
4. eye hooks
5. S hooks
6. 4x4 piece

Tools needed:
6" bolts (or however large you need to bolt through the swing set posts
lighter (to singe the rope ends so they don't frey and you can feed it through the holes).

French Mail Box

I found this little box for cheap at a garage sale.  I have been wanting to do some shabby French things and this seemed like the perfect item to get started.

Great grandma's rocker

This rocking chair was my great grandmothers.  Since it is so special, it is a keeper.  As much as I wanted to keep it antique looking and in its original state, I couldn't do it.

Shimmery coral table

Hello all!  Don't you just love garage sale season?  So far this year I have found a few small items, but I am still itching for a great find that has me excited.

This end table is so cute and only needed some paint to freshen it up.

How to make a large stencil or pattern

Many times you see people using a projector to enlarge an image so they can trace it.  This makes it easy to transfer that image to a large piece of furniture, like the front of a dresser.  What if you don't have a projector?  I have seen people make one, but I don't want to get into that.
The reason I am bringing this up is because I was really wanting to do a large stencil on a project I am working on, but I am too frugal to buy a large stencil, and too lazy to make a projector.
I got to thinking how I could make this work, then I remembered a site I ran across while we were redecorating my sons room.  He wanted a star wars theme and we wanted to put some posters on the wall.

Let's get to the point shall we?

Find any jpeg image you want to make larger.  For this project it was a damask I found free at Guild Mistress.

Go to Block Posters and follow the steps to print off your "poster" of the image you want.  You can then put it together and make a large poster, like we did for my sons room, or you can use it to make a large stencil.

Glider- basic to chevron

Gliders can be found easily at most garage sales, craigslist, or a friend.  Today I am going to share with you how I refinished a glider for a client.  She requested the colors and I got to work.

Saved disaster table

Do you ever run into a project that does not even come close to your vision of what you want?  This one is it for me.   Behold an old, french, metal garden table that is sooo rusty.  A neighbor had it out on the curb with a Free sign on it.  Of course, I snatched it up.

Make your own garden orb

I have been slowly adding some architectural interest to my garden.  I received a decorative "dress form" that looked like this:
It didn't quite fit with my vision of what it was going to look like, but I definitely could use the base.
I took 2 hanging baskets from the dollar store and wired them together to make an orb.  Using a large washer, I put that on the base to hold up the orb.
With a coat of clear protection spray, It was ready to go.  Yes, I know, I need more mulch!

Remake an outdated ottoman

I ran across this ottoman that had definitely seen better days.  I was really interested in the bun feet, but as I took a look at it, I realized I could fix it.  That means less going to the trash, which I like!

Vintage chic cabinet

A friend of mine was cleaning out her garage and offered me this cute vintage cabinet.
Don't you just love it when that happens?  She thought I could do something awesome with pressure or anything!  Well, I hope I don't disappoint her.
I tossed ideas around in my head and got to work.
I gave it 2 coats of diy chalk paint in beach house blue.  I decided to add some fun to the top.
I used a stencil I cut out on card stock to paint the flowers on.  This stencil, along with a lot of other awesome patterns, can be found at All Things Thrifty.

Still vintage, but with a flair!  I protected this cabinet with clear wax.
I hope you all have a great Mother's Day weekend!  I will see you on Monday.

What can I make with a mirror support?

Forgive me for not remembering where I saw this idea.  I searched and searched but could not find it, if anyone knows who to give credit to, please let me know!
So, this past weekend while out at garage sales, I ran across a mirror support (not sure what you call it) that used to hold a mirror on a dresser.  No mirror, so the piece was begging to be made into something new.
I love the detail and, of course, the chippy white paint!  All it needed was a little ledge to be made into a wall table.
I had a long piece of wood that came off a futon.
If you look closely, you can see a groove in the wood.  Lucky for me, the mirror support fit perfectly into the groove!  All I had to do was cut it to size and attach it.
I simply put 3 finishing nails in the top to hold it in place, stained the ends to match and it was good to go.  Attached to the wall in our hallway, is where she sits now.  The same day I found this one, I also found one more.  Would you make the same thing?  Any other ideas?

Drawers are so much fun.  You can do so many things with them.  I have done a few posts about them, and today I am going to share another one.

Teacher appreciation day gifts

I like to make a little something special for Teacher Appreciation Day.  I tried my hand at winter sowing this year and am very happy with the results.  I winter sowed some Hibiscus along with vegetables for my garden.  If you know anything about hibiscus plants, they get very big.  I succeeded in growing 7 of these.  I don't need 7 at my house, so they will be used on this special day.
I made miniature dragon flies out of small spindles and drawer hardware I had lying around.  I drilled a small hole into the bottom and inserted a metal stake.  It is held together with gorilla glue and protected with clear spray.  What do you do for Teacher Appreciation Day?

French box

A couple of years ago, my husband brought home a bunch of cigar boxes for me.  Don't you just love it when they do stuff like that? Most of them were made over, but this one was left untouched as it housed my glue sticks and my glue gun.

A pop of color

Any of you who have been to my blog have probably noticed my color scheme is a light calming one.  Sometimes I venture out and do something different.  That is what I did with this chair.

New Armoire

What I am about to show you is one of my most favorite makeovers to date!  You may look at this before photo and ask why anything needed to be done with this piece, but just wait until you see the after!
